7 days of anthropological adventure in Tanzania
We will learn about the culture of the Maasai, Hadzabe and Datoga tribes. We will find magical and remote places like Lake Natron, the sacred volcano Oldoinyo Lengai and Lake Eayasi. And it will allow us the observation of large herds of elephants in Tarangire and the Big 5 in the Crater of Ngorongoro.
The adventure begins!
Day 1
KILIMANJARO AIRPORT – MERU (MOMELLA)
We will be waiting for your arrival at the Kilimanjaro International Airport to welcome you to Tanzania, where a week of safari begins that will give us the opportunity to learn the culture, beliefs and rites of ancestral tribes of Tanzania. We will move to the northern slope of the great Mount Meru (4,560 m), in the vicinity of Momella where we will enjoy our first immersion in the culture of the Maasai people. The proximity of our accommodation to the Arusha National Park will allow us to enjoy fantastic landscapes and animal fauna that inhabits the area.
Day 2
LAKE NATRON / OLDOINYO LENGAI
After sharing the morning with our Maasai friends in a walking safari through the savanna to learn about the fauna that inhabits the area, and the medicinal plants that the Maasai use. After lunch we will say goodbye to move back to Maasai land in our Land Cruiser 4×4 safari vehicle to the sacred Maasai volcano, the Oldoinyo Lengai, in the inhospitable surroundings of Lake Natron and the Great Rift Valley, a remote area away from the routes conventional commercial. We will spend the night under the watchful eye of the only active volcano in Tanzania, the Oldoinyo Lengai.
Day 3
MTO WA MBU
In the morning we will enjoy a refreshing bath with the Maasai in the Natron Lake waterfalls, we will also contemplate the prehistoric steps of hominids that can be observed in the lava of the Oldoinyo Lengai volcano, inside the Ngorongoro -Lengai Geopark recently created by UNESCO. After lunch we will depart in our SUV Safari Bike Africa towards Mto wa Mbu, populated on the shore of Lake Manyara, traveling in parallel the great barrier of the Rift Valley. At night we will have a delicious dinner, a buffet of traditional African dishes in the middle of a plantation of banana trees in the house of some locals, with kitchen with stone ovens.
Day 4
TARANGIRE
Early in the morning we will go to the Tarangire National Park to make a game drive following the river Tarangire. In Tarangire we will enjoy a safari with open landscapes dotted with giant Baobas, Acacia forests and a great density of wild fauna such as lions, buffalos, antelopes, gazelles, zebras, wildebeest and more than 400 types of birds. During the safari we will have secured the sighting a few meters from large herds of Elephants. Tarangire is the largest elephant sanctuary in northern Tanzania.
Day 5
NGORONGORO CRATER
In the safari inside the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the 7 natural wonders of Africa and UNESCO heritage, we will have the opportunity to see the Big Five, the lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros. The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest volcanic caldera in the world. In its interior there are lakes with perpetual water that makes it an ideal habitat for wildlife that lives in the Ngorongoro Crater permanently.
Day 6
LAKE EYASI
On Lake Eyasi we will visit the Hadzabe tribe, the only one of Bushmen in Tanzania, from the Kalahari, which has a characteristic language with clicks in the form of clicks. We will accompany this tribe of hunters on a daily basis to see how they hunt, with artisan arches and arrows impregnated with a lethal poison and also how they collect honey from large panels of bees in the trees. During today we will visit a village of the Datoga Tribe and we will be able to see how artisan forgers work the iron with century-old techniques.
